in september 1996 raphaÎl marionneau met the makers of the mojo
club with the idea to create a chill-out club. they liked the idea
and one month later le cafÈ abstrait opened its doors for the first
session.
the concept was very simple: once a month, on a wednesday evening,
a dancing club is transformed into a big living-room, filled with
comfortable sofas, with abstract, coloured lights and abstract slide-shows.
offering tea for free to the visitors and playing digitally mixed
music to chill, relax and meditate makes le cafÈ abstrait sessions
simply perfect.
the concept of the couch culture was born.
today, almost 4 years later, le cafÈ abstrait has the status of
an institution in hamburg. it is a unique place beyond compare,
the first and only adress in the hanseatic metropolis. simply -
the headquarters of relaxation.
the music has the key role in the club - the sound of le cafÈ abstrait
is also unique: it is a special french blend called the french chill-out.
since 1996 the resident deejay raphaÎl marionneau has been creating
a mix of music ranging from ambient and easy listening over trip-hop,
house, world music to drum'n'bass, from movie soundtracks to jazz.
it is this wonderful harmony of rhythmes and melodies that gives
a very special atmosphere to the club.
